I try my best to use natural products to clean my house. Don’t get me wrong I have some Clorox and Windex products in my house for sure. However, I have really started using vinegar for lots of cleaning and wanted to broaden my list of ways to use this product in our home.
I’ve complied a helpful list of simple ways to use vinegar around the house. This rather cheap way to clean and deodorize the house can come in handy in a pinch or become a regular substitute.
Hope you find a few new uses among these suggestions!

Cleaning Uses
- All-Purpose Cleaner
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle to clean countertops, sinks, tiles, and more. - Glass & Mirror Cleaner
Spray undiluted vinegar on glass surfaces, then wipe with a lint-free cloth or newspaper. - Lime & Hard Water Stain Remover
Soak faucets and showerheads in vinegar or apply with a cloth to dissolve mineral buildup. - Microwave Cleaner
Heat a bowl of vinegar and water in the microwave for a few minutes to loosen grime, then wipe clean. This one works well and helps with any lingering food smells too. - Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Pour vinegar into the bowl, let sit, scrub, and flush. - Floor Cleaner
Add 1/2 cup vinegar to a bucket of warm water to mop ceramic tile or vinyl floors (avoid on marble or hardwood). - Coffee Maker Descaler
Run a cycle with equal parts vinegar and water to remove buildup; follow with clean water rinse. - Garbage Disposal Freshener
Freeze vinegar in ice cube trays, then run cubes through disposal to clean and deodorize.

Laundry Uses
- Fabric Softener
Add 1/2 cup vinegar to the rinse cycle to soften clothes and reduce static. I use this one daily. - Odor Remover
Use vinegar to eliminate musty or smoky smells from clothes. - Stain Pre-Treatment
Dab vinegar on underarm stains or grass marks before washing. - Brighten Whites
Add 1 cup vinegar to the wash to help whiten dingy socks or towels.

Deodorizing & Pest Control
- Deodorize Rooms
Leave a bowl of vinegar out overnight to absorb odors from kitchens, pet areas, or smoke. - Shoe or Trash Can Deodorizer
Wipe with vinegar or place a small soaked sponge to neutralize odors. - Ant Repellent
Spray vinegar along windowsills and entryways where ants appear. - Fruit Fly Trap
Mix vinegar with a drop of dish soap in a bowl; flies are attracted and get trapped.

Kitchen & Food Uses
- Produce Wash
Soak fruits and vegetables in a vinegar-water solution to remove pesticide residue. - Cutting Board Sanitizer
Wipe with vinegar to kill germs and neutralize odors. - Remove Onion or Garlic Smells
Rub hands with vinegar to eliminate strong odors.

Miscellaneous Uses
- Sticker or Label Remover
Soak paper labels with vinegar to peel them off easily. - Pet Accident Cleaner
Use vinegar to clean and deodorize pet messes (test first on carpet). - Weed Killer (Natural)
Spray full-strength vinegar on weeds in cracks (avoid desired plants).
I plan to try a few of these new ways to utilize vinegar around the house soon.

I had no idea vinegar could do this much! I’ve used it for cleaning windows, but now I’m inspired to try it in more ways around the house. Love how versatile (and affordable!) it is. Grabbing an extra bottle next time I’m out!
I know, went down a bit of a rabbit hole for info. Excited to try a few new ones myself!
I love using vinegar for so many things around the house! It’s such a great alternative to harsh cleaners. I especially like it to deodorize pet accidents!
Agree with you! I use it for many areas of the house, really like adding it to my laundry !
