This sweet book, At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon, is not a normal book pick for me. I was drawn to the cozy, small town look of the cover on a book display as I was checking out at my library and added it to my book pile to take home.
I’m glad I did. This book follows Father Tim, a 60-year-old single rector, on his heartfelt journey to rediscover purpose and deepen his faith. Set in a small North Carolina town, the story is enriched by a cast of colorful, endearing characters who play a role in guiding Father Tim toward greater meaning in his life.
The story unfolds through a series of eventful plot threads. A sudden encounter with a large dog claiming the Father as his own, an eccentric new neighbor, an unruly young boy who needs a place to live, not to mention a jewel thief that may or may not be in the town of Mitford.
This book was a delightful small-town read that really hit the mark. I will most likely continue this book series, currently there are 14 Mitford books, to spend a little more time with the enjoyable characters in this heartwarming community of Mitford.
If you are looking for a feel good book with charming and some quirky characters, give this one a try.
